Research Summary:

Symbiosis has dramatically affected the evolution of complex life through the formation of the mitochondrion and the chloroplast. Numerous other organisms have subsequently used symbiosis to gain access to otherwise inhospitable environments. My team studies the genomic and cellular complexities that arise when symbioses form, are maintained for long periods of time, and when they sometimes break down.
